From Pune to Tokyo: my first month
April 18, 2026 · by Priya
My first week in Tokyo, I ate dinner from a convenience store every night because I was too nervous to walk into a restaurant. The trains were a beautiful, terrifying puzzle.
Then a volunteer from this community spent a Saturday morning walking me to my ward office, helping me open a bank account, and teaching me which line went home. She asked for nothing.
A month later, I did the same for someone who arrived after me. That is how the bridge stays standing.
