Hiroshi moved to Gujarat to set up a components plant, expecting a two-year posting. Eight years later, his children speak Gujarati and he runs one of the region’s most respected India–Japan operations.

His secret, he says, was unlearning: pairing Japanese precision with Indian improvisation instead of fighting it. He now mentors Japanese SMEs taking their first nervous step into the Indian market.
